Generally, it costs around $200 to $800 to replace an above ground pool liner.

However, the cost to replace an above ground pool liner can vary based on a couple of factors:

  • The size of your pool and liner
  • The type of liner, such as beaded or overlap
  • Color and design
  • If you need installation accessories like coping strips

How do I know when to replace my pool liner?

So many factors can impact your vinyl liner’s lifespan. Common signs you need to replace your above ground pool liner include:

  1. Cracking or tearing
  2. Leaking.
  3. Wrinkles
  4. Fading
  5. Stains or discoloration
  6. Slipping or stretching out of the track

Can you put a new vinyl pool liner over an old one?

Installing a new liner over an old one isn’t a good idea. We do not recommend leaving your old pool liner in your above ground swimming pool when replacing the liner. It may seem like an extra layer of protection, but in reality, it will create more problems for you.

Installing a replacement pool liner requires you to redo or re-groom the bottom of the pool base and add a liner pad before installation. All the more reason to just throw the old liner out and start fresh!

My pool liner replacement looks too small. Should I stretch the liner so that it fits in my pool?

You never want to stretch your new vinyl swimming pool liner physically. The main reason is that it will void the manufacturer’s warranty. Also, by stretching the pool liner into the pool, you are thinning out the vinyl material making the swimming pool liner more susceptible to damage.

If your pool liner replacement looks too small, you may need to upgrade to a bigger size.

Take time to double or even triple measure your pool to be sure you get the right size from the get-go. Grab a buddy to help and measure from pool wall to pool wall and from the top of the pool to the bottom of the pool. Check out our full pool measurement guide for more details.

How long does it take to replace a pool liner?

Installing a replacement liner isn’t something you can rush through. On average, a straightforward pool liner replacement takes about one to three days.

First, you have to order the liner and wait for it to ship. At LinerWorld, we want you to enjoy your pool as much as possible, so we do our best to get you your orders fast. Orders placed before 2 PM (CST) typically ship the same day, and most customers receive their orders within 1-3 business days.

Once the liner arrives, installation time can vary depending on several factors, including the size of your pool and your experience level — or the experience level of those you hired to do the installation. Plus, there are also unforeseen complications that may arise, such as weather.

I got a new liner for my 21 ft pool. The one I got measured that it was for that size. I have installed it, but the overlap does not seem to be long enough. As the water level rises, the liner comes off. Do you have any advice? I don’t want to have to buy a whole new liner.
    Thank you for any help.
